Joint Assistant/Associate Professor position with specialization in Afro-Latino Cultures, Experiences, and Resistance in the Americas in the Department of Pan-African Studies and Latin American Studies Program.

Starting Date: August 2018

Minimum Qualifications:

1) An earned Ph.D. in a field of the Social Sciences or Humanities closely-related to Afro-Latino Cultures, Experiences, and Resistance in the Americas, including Pan-African/Africana/Black Studies, Latin American Studies, Chicano/a/Latino/a Studies, Comparative Literature, Ethnomusicology, Economics, History, Sociology, Political Science, and Women/Gender Studies is required; however, applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment (8/16/2018).

2) Evidence of teaching effectiveness and demonstrated experience teaching classes in the area of Afro-Latino Cultures, Experiences, and Resistance in the Americas;

3) Evidence of academic scholarship in the area of Afro-Latino / Afro-Caribbean Cultures, Experiences, and Resistance in the Americas. Evidence includes any of the following: books, scholarly journal articles, chapters, or grant-based monographs, and;

4) Ability to demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students in a multicultural/multiethnic urban campus environment with a substantial population of first-generation students.

Preferred Qualifications:

1) Demonstrated success in teaching, research, and publication in Afro-Latino Cultures, Experiences, and Resistance in the Americas, and;

2) Demonstrated experience of community-engaged research, teaching, and practice.

Duties:

The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and service to the University, profession and to the community. These responsibilities generally include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.

Salary: Initial salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
