Anthropology of Resistance in the Light of the Multispecies Turn
Annotation
The task of the workshop is to open the concept of resistance in anthropology to the agency of non-humans: their capacities to make social and political changes, fight back, co-produce politically charged effects, meanings and interpretations, refuse being controlled or dominated, affect more-than-human others in an unruly way or to form, change and rearrange political alliances and coalitions. What is meant by resistance, protest, disobedience, activism, infrapolitics or other concepts from the anthropology of resistance, in the light of the multispecies turn, where the resisting agency is recognizable as distributed along more-than-human lines? Is the relationship between anthropology of resistance and multispecies ethnography a case of mutual ignorance or one of antagonism, or something more interesting? The goal of this workshop is to explore their connections, sticking points and incompatibilities in more complex and nuanced ways.
The workshop is organized in two parts – a panel with paper presentations and an open discussion.
