Assistant Professor Anthropology
Anthropology – Simon Fraser University, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment in anthropology at the rank of Assistant Professor commencing September 1, 2019. The department is seeking an emergent scholar in socio-cultural anthropology who is committed to ethnographic innovation as a mode of theoretical exploration, and whose
research programme contributes to understanding the dynamics of power and social change in the contemporary world. Excellence in research and teaching are the primary criteria for this position.
We are particularly interested in scholars whose work engages one or more of the following areas: Indigeneity; violence; transnational mobilities; institutions, bureaucracies, and the state; community- based advocacy; and multimodal ethnographic methodologies.
The ideal candidate will be well-grounded in anthropological traditions of thought and in processes of critical reconstruction, committed to envisioning what contemporary anthropology may become. They will be able to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including core courses such as introduction to anthropology, ethnographic research methods, and anthropological theory.
Qualifications: PhD in Anthropology in hand by the appointment start date.
