Assistant Professor Anthropology
(wissenschaftliche Assistenz Ethnologie)

The Chair of Anthropology at the University of Basel, Switzerland, is searching for an anthropologist who specialises in visual culture and/or the arts, preferably with a regional focus on Africa. Candidates who integrate social, cultural, and art historical perspectives into their research and teaching are preferred.

A MA in social or cultural anthropology or a neighbouring discipline is required and the position will begin February 1, 2018 (teaching duties to begin February 26, 2018). For an appointment at an advanced Assistant Professor rank, a PhD is required and experience in empirical research. Teaching experience to support research and MA students is desired as well.

The assistant professorship is part of the BA and MA in anthropology. German and fluent
English is a requirement for this position as the BA is taught in German and the MA in English. Responsibilities include teaching duties; student supervision and support; BA- and (where applicable) MA-examinations; involvement in research groups; and limited administrative tasks. More information on anthropology at the University of Basel is available at:
