Anthropology Position in Sikh Studies
UC IRvine Anthropology Position in Sikh Studies
The Anthropology Department at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for the endowed Dhan Kaur Sahota Presidential Chair in Sikh Studies. The position is tenure-track, at the assistant professor rank, with an appointment date of July 1, 2018.
Applicants should have a strong record of research and teaching focused on Sikh communities in global contexts. Themes of special interest include: the role of Sikhs in civil society and government in India; Sikhs in science and medicine; Sikh movements outside of India; and sociolegal protections for Sikh and other minority groups in different settings. Applicants must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Anthropology or a related field, a commitment to Sikh studies, and an understanding of the Sikh community. Applicants should be able to link their research and teaching in Sikh Studies to broader disciplinary and interdisciplinary conversations (in, for instance, the anthropology of religion, migration, or science).
UCI’s Anthropology Department offers a B.A., M.A.s (in Anthropology and in Medicine, Science, Technology and Society) and Ph.D. degrees.
