The urbanization of Global Climate Finance

The Social and Cultural Geography research unit at the University of Zurich (Switzerland) is looking for a support partner in Mexico for the research project “The urbanization of Global Climate Finance”, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF). The project explores processes of financialization, their socio-spatial effects, and institutional underpinnings comparatively in Indian and Mexican cities. Please find more information on the project here: https://www.geo.uzh.ch/en/units/soku/research.html

We are looking for candidates with a research profile in urban studies that covers expertise in climate and/or development finance. The successful candidate is expected to hold a PhD degree in human geography, urban studies, architecture or relevant social science disciplines. Applicants should demonstrate the ability to conduct qualitative research, have significant expertise in urban development in Mexico as well as some publication experience. Proficiency in English and Spanish are an essential requirement. We are especially interested in team-players who are keen to contribute to the overall development of the project. Diversity and inclusion are important to us.

Starting date is 1 Mai 2022 or as agreed upon. The position is full-time and for two years. The work place is in Mexico, but the candidate will work in close cooperation with the Zurich team. The monthly salary is 36.000 Mex$. Funding for project-related fieldwork, conference and team meetings in Zurich is available. If you are interested, please send a letter of application briefly indicating your research profile, your curriculum vitae, names of 1-2 possible referees and a writing sample (your PhD thesis or relevant publications) in a single pdf file by e-mail to Fritz-Julius Grafe (fritz-julius.grafe@geo.uzh.ch). Publications or PhDs can be sent as separate files. Applications should be submitted in English by the 8th of April 2022.

Please direct informal inquiries to Fritz-Julius Grafe (fritz-julius.grafe@geo.uzh.ch). More information about us and our work can be found at https://www.geo.uzh.ch/en/units/soku.html
