From the start, the International Association for Vegan Sociologists has provided a platform for vegan sociologists across the world to share research expertise, ideas, methodologies, and facilitate collaborations in service of nonhuman animal liberation and veganism. In the 2026 meeting of the International Association of Vegan Sociologists we want to invite participants to consider how we can achieve IAVS’s aim to increase the visibility, legitimacy of, and collaboration within vegan sociology internationally, and how connecting local and international contexts is important to understanding and challenging nonhuman animal exploitation on a global scale, and to build a more just world for nonhuman and human animals alike.

Potential topics include (but are not limited to):

  • How to increase the visibility and legitimacy of vegan sociology internationally?
  • How to increase international vegan sociology collaboration and how to navigate institutional barriers?
  • How can vegan sociology help in decolonizing knowledge?
  • Vegan Sociological research on international Animal Rights and Vegan movements and activism
  • Research looking into vegan trends on social media and online vegan communities
  • Intersectional perspectives on the global connections between nonhuman animal oppression and exploitation
  • The impact of economic globalisation on nonhuman animal lives in different countries
  • Vegan sociology perspectives on global trends impacting vegan scholars and vegan activists across the world
  • Sociological theories and methodologies of international relevance and applications in local contexts

Facilitating a Panel

Interested in facilitating a panel for your country/region? We would love to hear about the Vegan Sociology work being done in your area! If you would be interested in organising a panel but need some more speakers for your submission please get in touch with us at info@vegansociology.com and we will do our best to support your submission.

Submission Guidelines

The 2026 IAVS annual meeting will showcase research related to veganism, animal rights, and sociological theories of international relevance. We welcome submissions for individual presentations (15 minutes and an additional 5 for questions) or panels (45 minutes with 15 for questions) to be delivered in an online format.

Please note that all submissions should fall within the guidelines of the International Association of Vegan Sociologists. We are only accepting sociological submissions; submissions that lack a clear sociological focus will not be included. To that end, all submissions must include a one or two sentence rationale clarifying how the submission aligns with sociological theory or practice.

This online conference, organised by the International Association of Vegan Sociologists will be held online and strives to accommodate a wide range of time zones, however please note that due to the complexities of international scheduling many presentations occur outside of regular business hours (before 9am or after 5pm). Please get in touch if this may be an issue for you. As we are an all volunteer organization, we regret that we are no longer able to record the conference. However, presenters are invited to self-record and edit their talk and submit it to IAVS for inclusion on the YouTube page.

Proposals and queries should be sent to info@vegansociology.com by 31st May 2026. It is expected that all potential presenters have familiarised themselves with the principles of IAVS and plan their presentations with these in mind.

Edited recordings of presentations are accepted on a rolling basis.

Proposal Checklist:

  • Name
  • Preferred pronouns
  • Affiliation (if any)
  • Preferred email
  • Title of talk
  • Abstract (50-300 words)
  • Sociological relevance (1-2 sentences)

This conference is free to attend and held online via zoom.
