The World Education Research Association (WERA) is an association of major national, regional, and specialty education research associations dedicated to sharing scholarship, developing networks, and mutually supporting capacity building.

The WERA 2019 Focal Meeting will be held in Tokyo, Japan from 5th to 8th August 2019. This meeting will be an occasion for the WERA to celebrate its 10th Anniversary. As one of the founding members of the WERA, the Japanese Educational Research Association (JERA) is pleased to host this memorial event.

The main theme of the meeting will be “Future of Democracy and Education: Realizing Equity and Social Justice Worldwide” and prominent scholars dealing with this topic in their educational researches have been invited as keynote speakers.

The WERA 2019 Focal Meeting will consist of a program of paper and symposia sessions on topics of world-wide scope. In general, the WERA Focal Meeting seeks to feature research that includes more than one country or is comparative, cross-cultural, international, or transnational in conceptualization, scope, or design.

The meeting will be held in conjunction with the JERA 2019 Annual Conference at the University of Tokyo and Gakushuin University. Participants to the WERA 2019 Focal Meeting will also have opportunities to attend the JERA Conference and learn about diverse educational researches conducted in Japan (some of the presentations at the JERA 2019 Annual Conference will be done in English).
